- A teaser for Galaxy Unpacked states that “a true AI companion” is coming
- The video shows how complex instructions are given to an AI assistant
- This is likely an upgrade to Bixby, which could come to the Galaxy S25 and other Samsung phones
We've always expected the Samsung Galaxy S25 series to have new and improved AI features, and now Samsung itself has hinted that we could see some major AI upgrades.
In the company's latest teaser for Galaxy Unpacked – the January 22 event that will almost certainly unveil the Samsung Galaxy S25 series – Samsung has announced the arrival of a “real AI companion.”
The company uses those exact words in a short video in which we see someone asking an AI assistant to find a pet-friendly Italian restaurant with outdoor seating. They request all of this in a single request and also ask that the information be added to their calendar and sent to someone else.

Such requests currently far exceed the capabilities of Bixby, Samsung's digital assistant. At least that's the case outside of China – Bixby has already rolled out a ChatGPT-like overhaul in China, and this teaser suggests the same upgrade will soon be available worldwide.
Samsung says its currently China-only Bixby upgrade can understand “complex user instructions” that combine multiple commands into a single sentence, which is exactly what we see in this teaser video.
It also has on-screen detection so you can ask questions about things on your phone's display, and it has a more modern interface than the Bixby we're used to.

An AI upgrade for new and old phones
Since the global rollout of this Bixby upgrade will likely be announced at Galaxy Unpacked, it may be available immediately on the Samsung Galaxy S25 – and since it's already available in China, we know it doesn't require the power of the Galaxy S25, therefore It's entirely possible that this will also be the case on some existing Samsung phones.
Still, we expect some of the very best new AI features to be reserved for the Galaxy S25 series, either because they require the power of the new chipset or simply as a selling point. It's also very likely that Bixby itself will run faster on upcoming phones.
We'll find out soon and TechRadar will be present at the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25, so stay tuned. In the meantime, stay with TechRadar and we'll bring you all the Galaxy S25 news, leaks and teasers ahead of the full announcement.
