The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely live up to its name as a top smartphone, but will it be packed with new and improved features?
Based on the tips and rumors we've heard so far, we're expecting a bit of a mix here – with some big improvements and some things that remain largely the same as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
But it's these new and improved things that we're focusing on in this article. That's why below you'll find the biggest upgrades we expect from the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
More megapixels for your large format shots
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera setup is already excellent, but the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra's camera system could be even better as several rumors suggest that this phone will feature a new 50MP ultra-wide camera.
That would be a big megapixel jump as the current model only has a 12MP ultra-wide camera, so this change could result in significantly more detailed ultra-wide shots.
This comes in handy when you want to fit a lot into a picture, and hopefully brings this snapper more in line with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's main camera.
Additional RAM for AI
AI is likely to become an increasingly important part of smartphones over the next few years, so it will certainly be a big focus with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and one possibility that could manifest itself is the additional RAM.
While lots of RAM can help with all sorts of things, it's especially important for AI. So it's perhaps no surprise that Samsung is rumored to be looking to increase the RAM memory from 12GB in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to 16GB in the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
However, we've heard elsewhere that only a 12GB Galaxy S25 Ultra model will be offered, while a tip suggests that the base model of the Galaxy S25 Ultra will still only be 12GB, meaning you You would have to pay for a higher storage capacity if you want 16 GB. However, if you plan to use AI intensively and want it to work as quickly and smoothly as possible, then it could be worth the investment.

A top-of-the-line chipset for top performance
If the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has more RAM than its predecessor, that should help it be more powerful. But what will help even more is a new top-of-the-line chipset, and it will almost certainly get that, as most leaks suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will come with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite performed very well in benchmarks and in many cases even outperformed the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. So if the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has this chipset – which is very likely – then it could be exceptionally powerful.
As with the extra RAM, this could also help with AI, which is expected to get a big boost this year, including a ChatGPT-like overhaul for Bixby (Samsung's digital assistant).
Magnetic wireless charging
Not only might the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra outperform the iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of performance, but it could also rival its clever charging features by having its own MagSafe-like system.
According to a rumor, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will support Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, a technology very similar to MagSafe. This would mean you could magnetically attach wireless chargers and other accessories (like tripods and battery packs) to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Notably, we've heard elsewhere that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may only work with a range of cases that instead have built-in magnets that wouldn't be quite as smooth, and we're not sure which information is correct.
A bigger screen than ever before
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's screen is already huge at 6.8 inches, but according to previous rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could have an even larger 6.9-inch display.
This is unlikely to make a drastic difference, but if the bezels are also reduced – which is likely – it won't necessarily make the phone's overall footprint that much larger, and that little extra space could benefit movies, games, etc. and everything else where bigger is better.
Additionally, a leak suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra's display could use a new version of Gorilla Glass with anti-glare technology, leading to another display upgrade.
A sophisticated and refreshing design
Even before you turn it on, there could be some obvious changes to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. According to reports, the S25 Ultra will have much curvier corners than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
That could help it visually fit in better with the rest of the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup and also make it more comfortable to hold (at least if you hold it so that the corners dig into your hand).
But that's not all, we've also heard that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may have smaller bezels than any other phone, which could make it look exceptionally premium.
